What Actually Happens in a Reflexology Session
If you’ve never had a reflexology treatment before, it’s natural to wonder what to expect. Let me walk you through it, so you can arrive feeling settled rather than uncertain.
Your first session starts with a conversation. I’ll ask about your general health, your lifestyle, and what’s brought you to reflexology — whether that’s curiosity, a recommendation from a friend, or simply wanting some time that belongs entirely to you. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with.
Once we begin, I’ll follow your lead. Some people like to chat throughout; others prefer quiet, relaxing music in the background. If you’d rather have a completely silent session, just let me know — once the consultation’s done and you’re settled, I’m happy to say nothing at all. Even in a silent session, I’m still paying close attention throughout — to the feet, to your breathing, to how you’re settling — so you don’t need to communicate anything for me to stay attuned to how the treatment’s landing. You’re also welcome to bring your own headphones and listen to your own music if you’d prefer.
You’ll then get comfortable, fully clothed, in a reclined chair or on a treatment couch — just your shoes and socks removed. I use a reflexology medium where needed, allowing me to apply specific finger, thumb and hand techniques with precision. I work on specific points on the feet (or sometimes hands), using thumb and finger pressure in a rhythmic, structured sequence. Most people find it deeply relaxing; some feel a pleasant tenderness in certain areas, which often eases as the session continues.
Sessions typically run for around an hour, and many clients tell me the last twenty minutes are when they finally feel their shoulders drop and their breathing slow down properly — often for the first time in weeks. Each treatment closes with a warm compress, with an essential oil blend included if you choose — a small, grounding way to bring the session to a close.
